FEI’s Senior Director, Terri Howard was interviewed by John Mercure on 620 WTMJ Wisconsin’s Afternoon News, providing insight into personal security and identify safety issues, as well as the emotional effects on consumer victims dealing with a data breach.

“Through no fault of our own these attacks are impacting personal information that is leveraged – whether it’s your name, date of birth, social security numbers or driver’s license number. These cyber criminals are able to gain information that can then be leveraged for other types of criminal activity.

The impact to victims of identity theft are as serious and as severe as any other form of trauma. What we’ve seen in the work we’ve done at FEI is that these individuals experience the same type of trauma as being victimized personally. Behavioral impact, psychological impact and emotional impact all play a role in what happens after a cyber-attack.”
