July 5, 2016, Milwaukee, Wis. — FEI Behavioral Health, a social enterprise with a 35-year history and a leader in workforce resilience from crisis management to EAP, will present among school safety professionals and administrators at the upcoming National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) School Safety Conference in Anaheim, California, running July 10-15, 2016.

FEI’s Senior Director Terri Howard will present an informative session, “Applying a Trauma Informed Approach to Classroom Behavior Intervention,” on July 14, 1:00 p.m. PST. Howard also has been asked to present her session for a second time at 2:45 p.m. The presentation will provide school safety professionals with tools to support students with complex or at-risk behaviors in order to keep classrooms safe. The session will introduce a relationship-based approach to behavioral intervention that focuses on trauma informed care and treats all students with dignity and respect.

Attendees will gain skills to de-escalate and interact with uncooperative, aggressive, angry or violent students. Participants will learn how to keep interactions from becoming incidents, how to keep incidents from becoming crises, and how to de-escalate crises as quickly and safely as possible. Attendees will learn how to increase staff confidence responding to classroom incidents and build relationships between staff, students and one another. In addition to her presentation, Howard also will be exhibiting at the conference.

Howard is responsible for working with FEI corporate clients to ensure they are prepared for, can respond to and recover from a crisis incident. She also coordinates the people support and psychological first aid services for those impacted by crises, and she is responsible for developing drills and exercises aimed at testing current plans and procedures. Over the years, Howard has contributed to several international standards and guidelines on crisis management and workplace violence prevention, including ASIS, a global community of more than 38,000 security practitioners, and the FBI.
