Trauma informed approaches to communication and intervention.

FEI will present sessions at the upcoming Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) Power of Connections Symposium, running August 21-24 at the Atlanta Evergreen Marriott Conference Resort in Stone Mountain, Ga.

FEI Senior Director Terri Howard is presenting the workshop “Safety, Connection & Managing Emotions: Trauma Informed Crisis Intervention” on August 23 at 10:15 a.m. EST and August 24 at 10:15 a.m. EST.

The workshop will discuss types of trauma, trauma-informed care, and the best practice of incorporating this approach in order to prevent re-traumatization and the potential for violence. Through practical application and takeaways, participants will learn key principles of a trauma-informed approach and opportunities for building and enhancing crisis intervention teams.

Additionally, Howard will present the workshop “Is Your Communication Affecting Behavior?” on August 23 at 1:45 p.m. EST and August 24 at 12:45 p.m. EST.

This session will explore how we communicate, trauma-informed approaches to communication, and the communication tools at-risk individuals use to express themselves and meet their needs. Participants will explore strategies to incorporate a trauma-informed approach to interventions utilized, ultimately allowing them to communicate in ways that provide dignity and respect.
