Senior Director Terri Howard covers topics ranging from implicit bias to crisis planning
FEI will present at two upcoming engagements: Greater Together 2019 Annual Youth Workforce Conference and the Executive Leadership Academy.
Cohosted by the Association of Children’s Residential Centers and the Wisconsin Association of Child and Youth Care Professionals, Greater Together takes place on June 11 at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, Wis. FEI Senior Director Terri Howard will present “Recognizing and Understanding Implicit Bias: Cultural Competency in the Field of Residential Treatment” at 2:50 p.m. CST.
Through the lens of equity theory and diversity management, the workshop will explore the idea of implicit bias, the complexities of how bias develops and how implicit bias can influence behaviors both generally and in culturally significant communities and settings. Human-serving and residential treatment professionals will explore biases in a safe environment, learn how to recognize their own biases and reduce the potential for micro-aggressions when working with children, youth and families.
Howard will present again at the Council of Independent Colleges, American Association of State Colleges and Universities, and American Academic Leadership Institute’s Executive Leadership Academy, running June 17-19, 2019, in Washington, D.C.
Speaking on crisis management planning, Howard will work with Academy attendees to review emergency response best practice for colleges and universities including the utilization of a detailed crisis communications plan, development of an accounting for people process and the use of an on-site operations center. The presentation will take place on June 18 at 9:00 a.m. EST.
